Subshrubs or robust perennial herbs; stemless or stem very short.
Leaves borne near ground in a massive rosette, lanceolate, 100-180 cm long, 12-20 cm wide, fleshy, outer surface lustrous green, lower surface pale green, margins with spines and prickles.
Scape arising from the center of rosette, 5-9 m tall, erect, branched upward, branches widely patent, sigmoid, apically repeatedly branched; flowers numerous, yellow or yellowish green, 6-8 cm long, erect on horizontal branches; perianth funnel-shaped, the segments 6, oblong, 2.5-4 cm long; stamens 6, filaments 6-8 cm long; ovary ovoid, 3-4 cm long.
Capsule oblong-clavate, 4-5 cm long; seeds numerous, lustrous, black.

台灣 : introduced into Taiwan in 1910, widely cultivated in the southern tip of Taiwan for fibers, sometimes escape and naturalized.
世界 : Native to Mexico.
